My 24” f/5 custom Dobsonian got this nickname while I was arranging to have it shipped from it’s previous home outside of Seattle, WA to it’s new home in Alexandria, VA. The shipping weight of the scope was over 400 lbs! Jerry Cotey built this like a battleship using an unusual combination of ATM techniques. John Hall of Pegasus made the mirror and it is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The master mirror maker Carl Zambutto is reported to have said that it was one of the best large dobs he had observed with when he looked through it at the 2000 Table Mountain Star Party with John Hall. John Dobson has also looked through it and said it had a great mirror. Eventually I plan to convert the mount to an folded optic aluminum dob that will weigh about half of its current 350 lbs and the eyepiece will be 6’ off the ground at zenith.
